Linette and myself farmed (mainly milk, sheep and wheat) in the Western Transvaal, South Africa up and until 1990. During our stay on the farm, Linette also taught for some time at the local farm school while I was lecturing part-time at the University of Potchefstroom and College of Agriculture.
Since we lived more than 40 km from the nearest High School, and were reluctant to lose our 3 children to boarding school, we decided to make a radical change to our lives in 1990. We packed up, left the family farm, and moved to Hermanus to live by the sea. Here Linette, after helping me to manage a restaurant we bought, established Harvey World Travel of Hermanus.
We relocated to New Zealand in 1997 after we sold Rossi's Restaurant and Harvey World Travel. When we arrived in New Zealand our daughter was 20 and sons 18 and 19. We lost them anyhow to NZ! They all adapted fairly easily to the Kiwi way of life and although our 2 boys live in Europe, they call themselves Kiwis and vowed to return when they start their own families one day. Our daughter is married and lives just around the corner with her husband and our first grand child.
On arrival in New Zealand we bought a large old house on Auckland's beautiful North Shore and had alterations made to make it suitable
as a guest house, homestay and B&B.
Linette and myself had our first guest the same day the builders finished in January 1998, and must have had in excess of 2 thousand families and single people staying with us over the past 10 years.
Most of our Guests
are immigrating to new Zealand and with our local knowledge of New
Zealand we can help you make your relocation experience as easy as
possible.
